In 2009 the exchange project with Zeldenrust Steelantcollege
in Terneuzen, Netherlands, ran for the second
year and was again a great success. In
April 2009 23 Dutch students and two staff arrived in Stockton for a week on the first leg of the
exchange. The project is based around
History curriculum links on Victorian Britain, so pupils visited Beamish Museum, worked in school on a project
about Jack The Ripper as well as taking part in social activities such as
bowling.
In October 2009 it was time for the return leg of the
project, with 16 Ian Ramsey pupils and two staff making the journey to
Terneuzen. This time the curriculum link
is the study of World War One, so pupils visited Ypres
to see the trenches, military cemeteries, the Menin Gate memorial, the Last
Post and the Flanders Field museum. We
also visited Ghent,
and pupils worked in school to produce a newspaper about World War One.
The project was enjoyed enormously by everyone involved and
we hope to expand the project in 2010, offering more pupils the opportunity to
be part of this fantastic experience.
