This is a bright and lively Department that encourages pupils to understand and explore the world locally, nationally, internationally and globally. We pride ourselves on the quality of our fieldwork opportunities in all years at a variety of environments to enable pupils to develop geographical skills. We encourage students to take part in group discussions but also emphasise the importance of independent study. Our Key Stage 3 programme is designed to engage and enthuse students about Geography and to make them curious about the world around them. However, it also prepares pupils for success at GCSE, through the skills, techniques and knowledge they gain, and promotes further study of Geography beyond the walls of Ian Ramsey.

Aims of the Department:

  • To promote enjoyment and further study of Geography
  • To give pupils a knowledge and understanding of the UK and the Wider World
  • To help pupils understand how Geography relates to their everyday lives and how it is useful outside of school
  • To encourage pupils to explore Geography issues in the media in order to create informed opinions
  • To contribute to the personal, social and moral well being of every pupil through the study of Geography
