At Ian Ramsey CE Academy, we have ambition for all, ensuring every pupil can access, engage with and succeed in music. Through a carefully sequenced curriculum, pupils develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to become informed listeners, creative composers and expressive performers.
Music combines practical musicianship with theoretical understanding, enabling pupils to explore a diverse range of genres, cultures and traditions. Through performing, composing and listening, pupils develop creativity, resilience, collaboration and self-expression.
Rooted in our Christian vision, ‘Together to learn, to grow, to serve,’ music nurtures joyful, confident and responsible young people who appreciate the richness of music and use their talents to contribute positively to their communities.
At Key Stage 3, pupils develop their musical understanding through a broad range of practical and creative experiences, while Key Stage 4 offers the opportunity to deepen this learning through GCSE Music.
DEEP Curriculum Overview
In line with our DEEP curriculum, the pupils follow a diverse programme of study in Music. At the heart of all lessons is a desire to express Music practically, but always reinforced with theoretical study. In lower school, Music is essentially a practical and creative subject which draws on a wide range of musical cultures, genres and traditions. Pupils are engaged in performing, composing and listening activities over a wide range of units which draw on co-operative learning, practical skills, independent study and creativity. In Year 10 and 11, pupils have the opportunity to study either GCSE or BTEC Music.
